9:00AM-10:30AM Elbow arthroscopy – Lead faculty – Dr. Buddy Savoie
Surgeons will witness elbow arthroscopy, focusing on portal selection, elbow positioning and strategies for managing varied pathologies of the elbow via arthroscopy. Participants will perform diagnostic elbow arthroscopy of anterior and posterior compartment while utilizing different arthroscopic equipment as rendered by the arthroscopic equipment industry representatives.
10:30AM-12:30PM Elbow arthroplasty – Lead faculty- Dr. Alejandro Badia
Surgeons will observe Dr. Badia perform a semi-constrained elbow arthroplasty on cadaver specimen with input by other faculty members concerning surgical approach, nuances of different implants including radial head for trauma indications, and soft tissue management. Participants will separate into teams to perform same with lab assistance by the various implant companies support/technical staff.
12:30PM-1:30PM Auditorium lunch – Dr. Badia live surgery feed into M.A.R.C. - (Thumb Basal Joint reconstruction) with question/answer forum.
1:30PM-2:30PM Thumb arthroscopy – Lead faculty- Dr. Tyson Cobb
Surgeons will observe Dr. Tyson Cobb perform a diagnostis thumb cmc arthroscopy including an interpositional arthroplasty utilizing a variety of different materials with indications and post-op management emphasized. Participants will have opportunity to perform a cursory diagnostic arthroscopy of the basal joint and discuss use of different materials for implant with the respective industry representatives.
2:30PM-4:00PM Thumb arthroplasty – Lead faculty – Dr. Nick Goddard
Surgeons will observe Dr. Nick Goddard perform a thumb metallic arthroplasty procedure under the inlight camera with emphasis on surgical approach, utilization of different implants demonstrated, and discussion on indications and post-op management. Surgeon participants will have chance to perform and observe a variety of joint replacements at the trapeziometacarpal level, with assistance from the various implant manufacturers.
4:00PM-4:30PM “Tricks and pearls of wrist arthroscopy” – Dr. Terry Whipple
Dr. Terry Whipple, an early pioneer of this discipline, will demonstrate portal placement and indications for wrist arthroscopy in the context of how wrist arthroscopy was developed and what future indications might result. Novice participants in this technique will then practice diagnostic wrist arthroscopy with assistance of faculty and experienced course participants, while the faculty can elaborate on certain advanced techniques. Industry sponsors will demo the newer equipment used in this area encouraging further innovation….
4:30PM-5:30PM Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery-Single Portal Certification –Dr.Badia
Concentrated one hour cadaver-based bioskills course utilizing both lecture and one on one experience with MicroAire’s state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedure in single portal endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery. Dr. Badia will provide personalized instruction of the procedure with a cadaver specimen. Participating surgeons will then perform the demonstrated technique his/her own cadaver specimen and one scope to be shared between 2-4 surgeons. Upon completion of the session, the trainer will sign Certification Forms, signifying successful completion of the procedure. In addition to reviewing the surgical protocol, potential complications and avoidance, post-operative management and clinical study results will be reviewed.
